Handog, Bondoc shine in junior golf

Geleen Handog nipped Mabel Salivio by a stroke in the most-closely fought division even as Gene Bondoc outclassed the Class A cast in the first leg of the Jungolf annual summer circuit played recently at the Tagaytay Highlands and Riviera.

Handog edged Salivio with a 282 total in the Class C girls play with Regina Abuloc not too far behind at 285 in the event that kicked off a 10-leg tour for the country’s top jungolfers where trips to the United States courtesy of Northwest Airlines are at stake.

Bondoc totalled 230 to prevail by 10 strokes over Lee Seong Ki and Paolo Panlilio by 10 big strokes.

Also topping their divisions were Kim Chang Hoi and Xandrea Dizon in Class B, Miko Yee in boys Class C, Amado Eustaquio and Ana Rowena Asistio in Class D and Jovy Ong and Inna Tsushihashi in Class E.

Raymond Escalona added an extra highlight to the opening leg with a hole-in-one last March 29 on No. 12 of the Tagaytay Highlands with a 4-iron.

Highlights of the show will be shown every Monday, from 9:30 to 10 p.m. on Zoe Channel 11.

The special telecast of all major legs is made possible through the joint efforts of Jungolf and Mukha Productions.

Kim Chang Hoi’s 228 gave him a 10-shot victory over Judeson Estaquio, Dizon beat Matet Salivio by three after a 260, Yee beat Miko Alejandro by one with a 240, Amado Eustaquio finished 13 shots ahead of Nico Sevilla while Ong figured in a close two-shot win over Jobim Carlos.

Merwin Mediana and Amalia Montecillo, leaders of the jungolf movement, both expressed their appreciation to the Riviera and Tagaytay Highlands management for allowing free use of their exclusive courses.
