CCP gains grand slam in CUSA

The Central Colleges of the Philippines scored a grand slam in the Colleges and Universities Sports Association (CUSA) as it bagged its third consecutive overall championship in the six-year-old league recently.

CCP dominated five of the league’s events, including volleyball, to romp away with the overall crown for the third year in row.

The Aurora-based Bobcats ruled the men’s volleyball for the fourth straight time and then added the women’s volleyball crown to dominate the 15-university tournament.

CCP has won the title of the men’s volleyball since 1997, but it was only the first time that it won the volleyball crown, beating Technological Institute of the Philippines.

CCP also stamped its class in table tennis as it won the championship in women’s division for the fifth straight year while placing runner-up in the men’s division.

The CCP chess team swept the five-round event while its women’s basketball squad finished runner-up and its badminton women’s team placed second runner-up.

Other awardees were Mario Jovito Espina, John Ellen Ejes and Arnel Gagani of the chess team.
