A cut above the rest

Olympian Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, back on her saddle after her gold medal performance in New Delhi last month, ruled last weekend’s National Rider of the Year series at the Quirino Grandstand to annex her second title of the year after a long layoff.

Riding Luisita for the first time, Mikee dominated Category A over Paola Zobel and Danielle Cojuangco in the showjumping competition to win the National Rider of the Year and Showjumping Rider of the Year awards.

The weekend triumph came after her gold medal finish in last month’s horse jumping competition in New Delhi where she beat 30 entries from seven countries to claim her first victory since her marriage to former PBA player Robert "Dodot" Jaworski, Jr.

Lara Reynolds, aboard Daydream, ruled Category B. Paola Cojuangco, on board Just Henry, was second and won the Junior Rider of the Year plum.

Danielle Cojuangco and Paola Zobel shared third place while Mikee Cojuangco finished fourth in Category B.

Dressage Rider of the Year was Carmen Silverio.

The competition was staged by the Department of Tourism in cooperation with the Philippine Equestrian Federation.
