Luis breaks mark, cops silver

-
HANOI – Sydney Olympic Games competitor Rasheya Jasmin Luis broke the Philippine record to win a silver medal in the recent SEASA (Southeast Asian Shooting Association) championship here.

Luis rewrote the national mark in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event by scoring 396 points. She eclipsed her own mark of 393 as she finished three points behind Thailand’s Pusuwan Piyawan. Vietnam’s Nguyen My Phuong took the bronze.

Two other Filipino shooters – Carolino Gonzales and Arthur Cabinian – each won a bronze medal in the free pistol and center fire pistol events, respectively.

Gonzales carded 547 points to rank behind gold medalist Phom Kao Son of Vietnam and Panich Patikum Jakkrit of Thailand, while Cabinian tallied 568 points to finish behind Thailand’s Panich and Vietnam’s Trinh Quoc Viet.

Five other countries – Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Indonesia – competed in the eight-day shootfest, according to PNSA (Philippine National Shooting Association) president Severino C. Villarama.

The RP delegation was headed by PNSA director Maurie Cecilio V. Ocampo.
