Lyceum waxed hot in the second half to subdue Philippine Maritime Institute, 87-74, yesterday and move within a win of sweeping the Group A elimination of the eighth McDonalds-National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) seniors basketball championship at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Getting big games from sixth man Nico Lanete and guard Dennis Rodriguez, the Pirates toppled the Sailors behind a big third period run to stay unbeaten in this 19-school meet sponsored by McDonalds and Iruma balls.
Emilio Aguinaldo College, meanwhile, edged San Lorenzo, 77-74, to boost its semifinals bid in the womens division. The win improved the Lady Generals slate to 2-2.
The Pirates started tentatively and trailed the Sailors at 13-16 before unloading an efficient offensive to turn the game around after two periods, 40-34.
