Welcoat streaks to 3rd win

Welcoat Paints extended its winning streak to three, drawing strength from Yancy de Ocampo to repulse Blu Sun Power, 61-48, yesterday in the 2000 PBL Challenge Cup at the Makati Coliseum.

Shark Energy Drink, meanwhile, made it six in a row with a 62-50 win over Montana Pawnshop in the second game.

The 6-foot-8 De Ocampo drilled in the bulk of his 12 points in a telling fourth quarter run that carried Welcoat to the win that tied it with Ana Freezers at third place with similar 3-3 win-loss records.

It was a sweet win for Welcoat Paints coach Junel Baculi and power forward Francs Zamora, who celebrated their birthday yesterday.

"Maybe it was my birthday and that of Francis (Zamora) that pushed them to work hard in winning this one but I believe the team became sick and tired of losing," said Baculi. — Joey Villar

De Ocampo, a two-time member of the league’s Mythical Selection, teamed up with Brandon Sison in the final period where Welcoat broke loose.

Ernesto Billiones and rookie Marlon Legaspi scored 10 points apiece fpr Blu Sun Power which suffered its third defeat in five outings.

Meanwhile, PBL commissioner Chino Trinidad signed a memorandum of agreement yesterday to help Habitat for Humanity Philippines build a house worth P120,000.

"As what we’ve promised before I assumed the role of a commissioner, the PBL will help in many ways in social work other than basketball, and this is one example of that," said Trinidad. – Joey Villar
