Fourth Alegre Sunrise triathlon slated Dec. 9

Local and foreign triathletes will face a higher level of physical challenge amid a scenic surrounding as the fourth Alegre Sunrise Triathlon is staged Dec. 9 at the Alegre Beach Resort in Sogod, Cebu.

Co-organized by Goodwill Tours of Japan, Triathlon Association of the Philippines and Team Rambo, the event will feature a 1.8 km. swim, 60 km. bike and 12 km. run covering Alegre, Sogod, Borbon and Tabuelan. Also to be held is a half-distance race with an equivalent of 36.9 kms.

The event, sponsored by Alegre Beach Resort, Danao Tel, Goodwill Tours of Japan, Osaka Health Clinic, Speedo, WG&A Superferry and Viva Mineral Water, will feature 30 Japanese triathletes and 40 local triathletes.

Female members of the national team will grace the TRAP-sanctioned event to promote female participation from Danao City and Sogod. Among the nationals expected to participate are Quezon City’s Anna Marissa "Popo" Nagtalon, Cebu’s Ripples Rafanan and Laguna’s May Ferrer.

Cash prizes worth P36,500 is at stake in the following categories: Open Expert, Seniors (18-24 years), Veterans (25-34), Masters (35-70), Ladies, Juniors (15-17), 15 Below (M/F) and mixed tandem.
