Defending champion Air Force and Navy moved closer to a title showdown in the second Globe Telecom Super Cup football tournament by routing separate rivals last weekend.
Edzel Bracamontes hattrick powered the Air Force booters past PCU, 8-0, at the Philsports pitch in Pasig for their second straight win in Group A while the Navymen blanked FEU, 3-0, at the La Salle Greenhills pitch for their second win in a row in Group B.
National player Freddie Gonzales knocked in two markers as Agila swamped Rizal Technological University, 5-0, in the other Group A match and Army trounced UP, 3-1, in Group B in the Globe Telecom-sponsored event backed by Coca-Cola and Mikasa.
In the consolation pool, Letran ripped Ateneo, 4-1, Fort Bonifacio shut out College of St. Benilde, 3-0, and San Beda drew with La Salle, 1-1, in the tourney organized by the National Capital Football Region Football Association.
Bracamonte scored goals in the fourth, 78th and 80th minutes while teammate and Tiger Cup veteran Yanti Barsales had a pair of markers in the 40th and 47th as the Airmen proved too hot to handle for the defense of the Dolphins.
Gonzales set the tone of the lopsided contest with back-to-back goals in the 25th and 28th in starring for the Agila boosters before leaving the rest of the job for his teammates to finish off the outclassed RTU squad.
The top teams in Group A and Group B will dispute the Globe Telecom Super Cup championship on Dec. 10 at the Philsports football field in Pasig.
