Ana trips Pharma, gains first win

-
Ana Freezers put premium on defense when its offense crumbled in the stretch as it outlasted Pharma Quick, 54-50, for its first victory in three starts in the PBL Challenge Cup at the Makati Coliseum yesterday.

The Freezermakers squandered a seven-point lead but regrouped in time, holding the Drug Specialists scoreless in the final 2:30.

Thus, Ana finally broke into the win-column following two straight losses while Pharma Quick remained winless in three outings.

"We couldn’t make our shots but the key was that we also kept them from making their own shots," said Ana coach Dante Gonzalgo.

Arial Capus scored a game-high 19 points, including 12 in the third quarter where the Freezermakers led by five at 47-42.

Pharma Quick took control at the start, roaring ahead at 17-7 behind the exploits of FEU standout Mico Roldan and former pro Jun Jabar.

But the Freezermakers would close in at 13-17 at the end of the quarter before making their own breakaway.
