Pucay settles for joint 14th

-
Marciano Pucay blew a two-under card as he fumbled with a double-bogey on the final hole, settling for an even-par 72 and a share of 14th place in the Lexus International at the Windmill Park Country Club in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.

Three down at the start of the round, Pucay moved within two shots off the pace with a birdie on the par-3 No. 3. But the Filipino shotmaker went on a roller-coaster round after that as he stumbled with two bogeys and that double-bogey six on the par-4 18th that foiled his bid for a top 10 finish in this Asian PGA Tour event.

He wound up with 279 for joint 14th with Australian Wayne Smith (70), Myanmar’s Kyi Hla Han (67) and Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand (72).

It was a sorry windup for Pucay although he hopes to learn much from that final hole foldup in his bid to come up with a solid finish after so-so stints in the APGA Tour this season.

South African Craig Kamps rallied with a five-under-par 67 to beat Simon Dyson of England and Scot Simon Yates in a scrambling finish among 10 players. Kamps won by one stroke with a 16-under 272 total worth $150,000.

Dyson, who shared the third round lead with South African Nico Van Rensburg, carded a 69 to finish tied for second with Yates, firing a 67, at 273.

Rodrigo Cuello also bounced back with a three-under 69 to gain a share of 18th place with three others at 280.

Van Rensburg carded a 71 for a share of fourth place with Thai bet Chawalit Plaphol, who tied the tournament’s best-64, at 276.
