Visayas t'thlon series starts

The quest for the best Visayan triathletes will begin as the Guardo Fiesta Triathlon series (formerly Funsports Fiesta Triathlon) will have its first points-scoring race held at Pinamungajan, Cebu today.

The series, launched at Argao last February, will start its points scoring system with the upcoming race and with succeeding races throughout Cebu this year. By the end of the year, the series will determine who'll be the Visayan triathlon champions.

The event is sponsored by Osaka Health Clinic, Viva Mineral Water, Funchum Juice Drink, Cali Shandy, Pepsi-Cola, Rondina's Photography & Video, Fuente Pension House, Thirsty Shakes & Fruit Juices, Dyla AM 999, Mellow Touch 97.9 Killer B 92.3, Ninal Cars and J&Auto Sales.

Among the favorites for the race are Johnny Yanong, George Vilog, Winnie Marie Chan, Ripples Rafanan, Eugene Sanchez, Abet Biagan, Chris Aldeguer, and Quinito Moras. The race, which features both Sprint (750M Swim-20Km Bike-5Km Run) and Olympic (1.5Km Swim-40Km Bike-10Km Run) distances, is sanctioned by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) and organized by Funsports in coordination with Guardo Sports and the Municipality of Pinamungajan.
