It's 4th in a row for Lakers

Seven and still counting.

Streaking Laguna extended its winning run to four, trampling a listless Socsargen side to post a runaway 89-73 road victory yesterday in the MBA Fedex Crossover Cup at the General Santos City Coliseum.

It was the Lakers' seventh triumph overall against two losses, both coming against the Negros Slashers, the 1998 losing finalists, while the Marlins, who dropped a heartbreaking 76-77 game to the league's maiden season champion Pampanga Dragons two weeks ago, absorbed their sixth setback against three wins.

Fil-foreigner Jeffrey Flowers came in full bloom to power the FedEx-backed Laguna squad game-high 21 points, 10 rebounds and two block shots.

The 6-foot-7 Flowers scattered 12 of his total output in the first half as the Lakers sped to a 48-33 lead.

Although Flowers slowed down a bit at resumption of play, another Fil-Am, Chris Clay, took over to lead the Lakers in scuttling several third quarter rallies by the Marlins.

Dindo Pastor, who led Socsargen with 14 points, tried to put the Marlins back into the game but drew little support from his teammates. They came no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Clay, a southpaw who is known for his high-wire acts, tossed in 15 points as the Lakers tied the biggest number of wins so far this season at seven, posted by the equally-streaking Davao Eagles (7-1) in the team standings.

Over at the Gov. Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo, Rizal, the Iloilo Megavoltz, down in the cellar with a woeful 1-7 (win-loss) card at the start of the game, pounced on an over-confident Pasig-Rizal side and snatched a 95-90 victory.
