Bacolod takes over as Palaro venue

President Estrada has approved the recommendation of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports and the Philippine Sports Commission to transfer the Millennium Palarong Pambansa from Tubud, Lanao del Norte to Bacolod.

This was announced yesterday by PSC chairman Carlos Tuason through a letter they received from the Office of the President saying that "Bacolod is the best prepared venue among the venues recommended which does not need any funding."

Tuason said that Iloilo and Cebu were included in the choices but since the two venues would need some repairs in their existing facilities, equipment and playing venues, they were left out. The National Capital Region, Tuason added, was also considered.

The deteriorating peace and order situation in Lanao del Norte has prompted the government sports body to transfer this year's staging of the Palaro.
