La Salle, AdU belles win

-

University of St. La Salle Bacolod-2 and Adamson U moved closer to the quarterfinals by posting a string of victories in the final round of eliminations in the fourth Nestea Inter-collegiate Beach Volleyball tournament at the CCP grounds in Pasay City yesterday.

After scoring walkover wins over Rizal Technological University and Ateneo, the USLS tandem of Cecille Tabuena and Althea Ilejay overpowered the UST pair of Corine Canonoy and Rosalyn Labay, a replacement for Johanna Botor from last year's champion team, 12-7, to move a win closer to the next round.

Like USLS, the Falconnettes, bannered by the tandem of Pines Estrada and Aileen Quina also emerged unbeaten in three starts following a 12-1 thrashing of Far Eastern University's Monica Atleta and Ailyn Ege as they forced a must-win match over USLS for a berth in the next round.

In the men's side, De La Salle U and Philippine Christian U-Manila kept their streak going as they beat National University and Iloilo Doctors College, respectively. - Joey Villar

The Green Archers, composed of Michael Malonzo and Janley Patrona, whipped the duo of Rolando Alberto and Roberto Javier, 12-2, while the PCU tandem of Alrey Flores and John Paul Bognot downed the pair of Mark Sotomil and Renato Arsaga, 12-6.

Meanwhile, University of San Jose Recoletos Cebu-I and Letran College-I topped the other day's third round of action while the distaff side was ruled by Letran and Adamson to book a trip to the Boracay finals slated April 28-30.
