Japan-bound triathletes shift their training into full throttle in the second Ginsana Duathlon (5-km run, 30-km bike and 5-km run) at the Clark Special Economic Zone in Pampanga on April 9.
National duathlon champion Lorenzo Daniela is expected to have a tough time warding off the RP flagbearers to Asian Triathlon Championships (ATC) in Gamagori and All-Japan Strongman in Miyakojima, both set on April 23.
Nancy Pajarillo, RP's strongest female bet to the ATC, being the country's top triathlete and duathlete, is the heavy favorite in the female side of the event sponsored by Ginsana, official food supplement of triathletes, SPEEDO and Negros Navigation.
Sergio Naguiat, president of the Clark Development Corporation, said, "We fully appreciate Triathlon Association of the Philippines' assistance to our thrust to develop Clark SEZ into a beehive of sports activities aside from developing it as the window to the industrializing Philippines."
Sonny Lopez, CDC Public Affairs and Info Services manager, is coordinating with race director Dong Sarmiento and TRAP administrative officer George Garcia to ensure the success of TRAP's initial foray in Clark.
Prizes amounting to P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 await the top three male and female finishers.
On top of the overall male and female championships, on tap are age group competitions for 19 years and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 and over.
Registration is at TRAP office, room 202, second floor, Alpha building, Philsports, Pasig City (tel. nos. 0912 3887203/Dong, 3887204/George, 0917 8971424/Carlo) and POC NSA center, Administration bldg., Rizal memorial sports complex (tel. nos. 522-4896, 523-6280/red).
