Alex Montelibano, Carlo Gamban, Rico Javier and Andy Co launch the Philippine campaign as the 17th Asean Seniors Golf Championships tee off today with the gross team competition at the Legends course of the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club.
Montelibano, the many-time national champion, will be spearheading the local bid to wrest back the crown from a well-prepared Malaysian team in a fierce 54-hole battle set in two tough courses.
From Southwoods, the contending teams that also include Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei transfer to the Couples course of the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite tomorrow before the final round is played Friday at Southwoods.
Globe Telecom is the major sponsor of this year's Asean Seniors which is organized by the Federation of Philippine Senior Golfers, Inc.
The other backers are Department of Tourism, Philippine Tourism Authority, Pagcor, the Philippine Golf Foundation, Mizuno and the Lucio Tan Group of Companies with Century Park as the official hotel and Absolute as the official drinking water.
The opening ceremonies for the event that lured 300 players will be held also today starting at 6 p.m. at the Century Park Hotel with Philippine Sports Commission chair Butch Tuason as guest of honor.
