Yan paces Luisitans to victory

-

Powerhouse Luisita flexed its real might in the final round and left an upset-conscious Wack Wack eating its dust, streaking to a 28-point victory yesterday in the second Federation Interclub golf tournament.

not_entDown by three after the first round, Luisita banked on the big games of Lucio Yan, Alex Montelibano, Allan Gaston, Carlo Gamban and Francisco Sumulong to pull off its second straight Interclub triumph in less than a month.

The Luisitans had earlier reclaimed the PAL Interclub seniors crown in Cagayan de Oro from the same Wack Wack crew also in lopsided fashion.

Yan added a 47 to his first-round 51 to win individual honors by three over Wack Wack spearhead Ben Abalos as the former Mandaluyong mayor managed only 43.

Over at the Sherwood Hills course in Trece Martirez, Cavite, CAP-Southwoods surged ahead by 17 points with a rousing start anchored on veteran Jun Jun Plana and newcomer Jerome Delariarte.

Plana and Deleriarte sparkled with one-under-par 71s equivalent to 37 points while Juami Rocha and Hanson So Jr. scored 35 and 33, respectively, for a 142 total.

Luisita had a 125 while Canlubang was far behind with 100.

Luisita's old reliables delivered with Montelibano contributing a 45 and placed third in the individual battle. Gamban, making up for his first round absence, and Allan Gaston made 44 each, Francisco Sumulong had a 43 and Marcelo Alfonso rounded out scoring after a 41.

The Riviera team ruled the Rizal division with plenty to spare with a 36-hole 496 total while Orchard took the Bonifacio division plum.
