Wack Wack leads rival in Interclub

-

Former Mandaluyong Mayor Ben Abalos fired 52 points as Wack Wack jumped the gun on chief rival Luisita by taking a three-point lead at the start yesterday of the second Federation Interclub seniors golf tournament at the Wack Wack east course.

The 52 points of Abalos sparked a highly-charged start by Wack Wack which saw the host turning in three scores in the 50s in a bid to strike back at the same team which routed them in the PAL Interclub two weeks ago in Cagayan de Oro.

Andy Co tallied 51, Jun Jacinto had 50, Alex Sison with 42, Boy Figueroa 41 and Tetu Santos 39 for Wack Wack's 272 in the first round of this eight-to-play, six-to-count competition.

Wack Wack tees off in today's final round with a slim three-point margin over Luisita which drew a 51-point effort from the ever-reliable Lucio Yan.

The other scorers for Luisita were Allan Gaston with 49 while Alex Montelibano, Francisco Sumulong and Cesar Muñoz all carded identical 44s with Tony Garcia's 40.

Coinciding with the last round of seniors action today is the first round of the regular men's division at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite.

The Tommy Manotoc-led Canlubang, Southwoods and Luisita are expected to figure in another down-to-the-wire championship. National players Angelo Que and Cookie LaO will be leading the Luisita and Southwoods teams, respectively.

Riviera, playing in the lower Rizal Division, came up with a 246 to be in third place. Riviera, getting 48 from Francis Calma and 46 from Rico Javier, was the virtually champ in its division title, taking a 41-point spread over Alabang.

In the Bonifacio division, Pueblo del Oro uphel a two-point lead over Orchard after scoring 218 with the Guam guest team in third at 178.
