“That’s, I think, the main reason why they transferred to the Department of Trade. Kasi ang main mandate ko ngayon is really income generating, income and trade. Hindi siya is just making products but actually selling and converting them to pesos, to money,” bungad ni Sec. Roque nang maka-lunch namin siya last Saturday.

“Of course, the reason for the transfer is really for them to be able to generate more income; here locally and also globally. The film industry and the creative people within it are already well-known worldwide. So yeah, ‘yun ang isa natin that we can export also, and we can let the people know how good we really are in that category,” paliwanag pa ni Sec. Roque.

“For me, is to be able to find more avenues so that we can show our film locally and globally. Kasi, the film is already made. The movie is already made, so all we need to do is, let’s say, generate this amount of money. How do we double it?

“Or how do we increase it by 50% is to find avenues where they can sell or more marketing para mas makilala ‘yung movie and also to be able to promote it globally also. Because there’s a lot of Filipinos that are also wanting to watch these kinds of movies. ‘Yun nga lang wala silang access. So now that they’re part of the DTI, when we go abroad to promote investments and foreign trade as well as the products of the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises), we can also carry the local films. And I also carry the creative industry, like twice since I sat in the office, which was two months ago. I already brought ‘yung arts industry, ‘yung mga painter. One to Tokyo and another one next week to Australia, Sydney. So, we also want the global world to know that the Filipinos have so much to offer, which is the creative industry. Ang dami nang sikat eh, let’s say sa fashion; there’s already Michael Cinco that we must also look at, and so many others that are monikers here that’s also very popular overseas.

“So I’m sure naghahanap din ang Filipinos overseas ng mga sariling atin na mga pelikula. So this is one thing that we want to market also. So when we go abroad, bitbit na namin lahat ng produkto ng Pilipino including the film industry,” mahabang pahayag pa ni Sec. Roque sa kanyang mga plano.

“Because this was an ASEAN meeting. So it’s a meeting among leaders, and then we also get to know how they do their practice and how we do our practice, also comparing notes in establishing trade. Not just trade ‘no. Of course, sa akin kasi trade, but trade and other sectors to all the countries of ASEAN.”

Dagdag na impormasyon niya: “I’m supposed to go to Australia soon, so I have to talk to Joey Reyes so we’ll be able to discuss with him what films we can include because in every country, especially in every embassy or DTI office, we have what we call the FTSC, Foreign Trade Service Corps, and what they do is entertain business people from that particular country or they also do business matching.

“So, we can also do business matching for film. We do it for foreign investment. We also do it for foreign investors. We also do it for products—for the small and medium enterprises. And now, the creative industry, which we started with the arts and then soon after also the film. And then, like the arts, what we do now is do the showcase in the embassy or in the DTI office. And then after that, we already assign a local, or, let’s say, in Syney, a local gallery, where they leave the artwork there para makilala.

“Kasi ‘yung mga trade show, we already invited foreign buyers, big buyers. So nagti-triple na ‘yung benta nila. So we also hope to do that for the filmmakers,” pagdidiin pa ni Sec. Cris na kitang-kita ang pagiging agresibo sa kanyang trabaho upang palakihan ang kita ng ating mga producer at kahit papaano ay makasabay sa mga pelikula ng ibang bansa tulad halimbawa ng South Korea na kilalang-kilala na sa buong mundo.

Ang gandang balita nito sa movie industry.
