The Philippines aims for a Top 20 finish or better in the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad that will be unveiled tonight at the sprawling BOK Sports Hall in this Hungarian capital known for its long, cherished tradition in the sport.

After clashing with lawmakers last week over her office budget, Vice President Sara Duterte was a no-show at the House of Representatives appropriations committee’s second budget deliberation yesterday, earning condemnation from some lawmakers who described her as “bratinella to the max.”

Duterte said the House of Representatives inflated DepEd's budget for classroom construction beyond its requested sum in 2023 and 2024. This, she claimed, allowed Romualdez and Rep. Elizaldy Co (Ako Bicol) to control billions in additional funds.
