Philpop malaking tagumpay, Salbabida naiuwi ang P1M!

MANILA, Philippines - Ang beteranong song writer na si Jungee Marcelo ang tinanghal na grand prize winner sa ginanap na 3rd Philippine Popular Music Festival (PHILPOP) sa Meralco Theater last Saturday, July 26,  para sa sinulat niyang inspirational song na Salbabida

Ang R&B Princess na si Kyla ang interpreter ng kanta na tungkol sa kanyang asawa at pagmamahal sa Diyos.

Kilalang born again Christian si Marcelo na nagsimula ang career bilang composer ng Gospel and praise music bago siya nakilala sa mainstream.

Last year ay second runner up si Marcelo. Pero this year ay naiuwi niya ang P1 million cash prize at ang beautifully crafted trophy ng bantog na glass sculptor na si Ramon Orlina.

Isa ring inspirational entry ang nanalo ng first prize,  Awit Mo’y Nandito Pa ni Toto Sorioso. Iniuwi naman ni Sorioso ang P500,000 at Orlina trophy din. Si Sorioso ay dating wedding singer.

Ang nakakakilabot naman na interpretation ng YouTube sensation Aldrich Talonding na nag-perform kasama ang pinsan niyang si  James Bucong sa guitar ang isa sa umani nang standing ovation mula audience sa ginanap na grand finals night.

Nanalo na noong 2012 si Sorioso bilang 1st runner-up para sa kanyang entry na Tayo Tayo Lang. 

Ang compelling ballad naman na tungkol sa isang lalaking hindi masabi ang kanyang nararamdaman sa napupusuan na sinulat ni Daryl Ong’s Torpe ang nanalo ng 2nd runner-up na binigyan buhay ng R&B singer na si Kris Lawrence. Nasungkit niya ang P250,000 na premyo at  Orlina trophy. Ito ang unang pagkakataon na nakasama sa finals ng Philpop si Torpe.

Ang iba pang mga entry ay ang  Kung Akin ang Langit by news anchor Chi Bocobo and Isaac Garcia na nanalo naman Spinnr People’s Choice award and P100,000. A lullabye for Bocobo’s disabled son who is suffering from Type 2 spinal muscular atrophy, the song was interpreted by former Orange and Lemons frontman Mcoy Fundales and promising newcomer, Clara Benin.

Personal na ipinagkaloob ang mga premyo sa mga nanalo ni PhilPop Foundation Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan kasama si PhilPop Executive Director Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and top officials of the MVP group of companies.

Ang iba pang PhilPop finalists this year were Soc Villanueva’s Babalikan Mo Rin Ako interpreted by Nikki Gil, Mike Villegas’ Dear Heart  na kinanta ni Kiana Valenciano, Qrush on You ni James Palma and Cedric Bondoc and performed by JayR, Elmo Magalona and QYork, and Toto Sorioso’s other entry,  Langit Umaawit sung by Tom Rodriguez.

Nakapasok din sa finals ang Hangout Lang ni Allan Feliciano and Isaac Garcia as performed by Duncan Ramos and Young JV, Davey Langit’s No Girlfriend Since Break sung by Luigi D’ Avola, Popsie San Pedro’s The Only One crooned by Thor Dulay and Song on a Broken String by Jude Gitamondoc and Therese Marie Villarante as interpreted by Nicole Asensio.

Kasama sa mga naging hurado sina Noel Cabangon, Megan Young, Sam Concepcion, Wilma Galvante, Julie Anne San Jose, Aiza Seguerra and Abra.

The 3rd Philippine Popular Music Festival was presented by Smart and Spinnr, co-presented by PLDT Home Telpad. Sponsored by Maynilad, Meralco, NLEX, SM Lifestyle and Entertainment, Sun Cellular, Bench, FPLA, MPIC, Procter & Gamble, Sony, Universal Records, Businessworld, Radio Republic, RX 93.1, Yahoo, Toni and Guy Essensuals, Filscap, TV 5 and MYX.
