Nalihis sa punto?

PERUSE ME - Ronnie Carrasco -

No apologies to the ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Division (CCD), wala naman kasi itong kinalaman sa statement ng The Buzz in reaction to Startalk’s editorial tungkol sa umano’y invasion of privacy ng naturang network sa funeral coverage ng yumao at nailibing nang si Marky Cielo.

Higit lalo na hinihiwalay ko ang The Buzz host na si (Kuya) Boy Abunda, dahil network stand ang kanilang ini-release upang idepensa na walang nilabag na anumang karapatang pantao ang Channel 2 in its coverage.

Dalawang mahahalagang personalidad lang ang ididistansiya ko from the issue: Si Kuya Boy at ang CCD ng ABS-CBN whose staff possess such endearing qualities worthy of their PR functions.

Pero tila nalilihis ang punto ng istasyon in its reaction to Startalk’s WTS (Walang Takot Sasabihin). It is inarguably right when it states: Responsibilidad ng anumang media network, hindi lamang ng ABS-CBN, na ihatid ang balita sa mga manonood, malaki man o maliit, sensitibo man o hindi.

I would not even dare cast aspersions on the claims by The Buzz staff na pinakitunguhan naman sila nang maayos ni Mommy Mildred Cadaweng. Common sense would dictate na kahit sino pa ang tumuntong sa Bauko, Mt. Province, na ilang kilometro mula sa Maynila, ke fan o mediaman, kaibigan man o kaaway, such courtesy should be in order.

As media practitioners, we owe the public the news stories they want told, lalo’t higit ang katotohanan sa likod ng bumabalot na misteryo as in the case of Marky’s death.

But one than delivering the truth to please the curious public, naroon pa rin sana ang kunsiderasyon alang-alang sa pakiusap ng mga naulila. Dito nagkulang ang mga programa ng ABS-CBN. Showbiz deaths are supposedly non-exclusive, they’re for every media outlet to report, if not to feast on.

Ano ba sa akala ng naturang istasyon ang dahilan kung bakit nag-break down si Mommy Mildred? Just what prompted the bereared mother to lay a hand on an ABS-CBN staff if she believed the network’s coverage was most fair at naaayos sa kanyang pakiusap?

Huwag na sana nating ituring na isang malaking Christmas tree ang sinapit ni Marky na ngayo’y hungkag naman sa mga maningning na ilaw at pilit hinahanapan ng tanglaw.

Marky is now in peace, let this issue be buried as well.
