Labi ni Greta may problema

My Sunday column (which is today) has this “sandwich filling feeling. Kahapon kasi, Sabado, nang magsimula na uli ang second semester ng Kakasa Ka Ba sa Grade 5?, at bukas naman tayo iilawan ng Luna Mystika, both GMA 7 primetime treats.

Magkaiba man ng genre, both shows have common viewers: Pareho kasing pambata ang captive audience ng mga ito.

While the Janno Gibbs-hosted back-to-school show refreshes our long-forgotten lessons, kakaibang aral naman sa buhay ang hatid ng Heart Evangelista-Mark Anthony Fernandez-starrer na telefantaserye.

Janno’s is educational, Heart and Mark’s is fictional; the former promotes knowledge while the latter wields magic.

“Tuhog event” na maituturing ang idinaos ng TV 5 at the A. Venue on Makati Avenue last Wednesday night: early Christmas galore for the press at second season since the network was relaunched last August.

Bilang motif, the venue was dressed like a carnival (take note, a far cry from the perya that we know) obviously indicative of its young, upscale market. If only for the production design, wagi ang event na ’yon despite tickets to certain designated booths that lacked play fun.

Feeling ko lang, the occasion was under the guise of a real Christmas party for the press, kundi ang pag-aanunsyo lang ng mga bago at pakaaabangang programs to look forwad to: Ang Kiddie Kuwela ni Bayani Agbayani, ang Midnight DJ ni Oyo Boy Sotto, ang Rescue Mission ni TJ Trinidad, at You & Me Against the World ni Gretchen Barretto, among others.

Expected to be the star of the night was La Greta, the “perfect woman” that she believes she is dahil contrary to the observation of Bong de Leon, “Something’s wrong with your eyes. Have you gone under the knife?” Sagot ni Gretchen, walang nabago sa kanyang mga mata, baka raw mga mata ni Kuya Bong ang may diperensiya, but she said it in jest. “I’m perfect!” Gretchen bragged.

For once Bettina Aspillaga, noon ko lang na-appreciate si Gretchen, how genuinely honest of her.

It’s her lips that are imperfect, neither the shape nor the size.
