Regine mas magaling nang umarte kesa mag-inarte

Pahiram, Tita Emy Abuan, but to some, isang suntok daw sa buwan on the part of Star Cinema to create a loveteam, in John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo. Blunty put, forcing through ang kanilang first screen tandem via A Very Special Love. Ergo, huwag na raw ipagpilitan.

But who knows, ABS-CBN’s film arm is out to prove the few doubting Thomases wrong? It’s a ‘given’ that the tried-and-tested formula as almost always a bankable project. But in the filmmaking business, novelty and variety click with the audience.

On their own, marami nang napatunayan sina John at Sarah, their separate stints speak for themselves. Ang magkabukod nilang achievements may have inspired Star Cinema to experiment on a project that is both unusual and challenging.

And what an  OA way to drumbeat the movie which is showing more than a month from now (July 30). Bahagi rin kasi ito ng 15th year celebration ng Star Cinema whose initial presscon coincided with John’s birthday.

GMA 7 is known for developing an addictive televiewing habit, and for the romantic comedy junkies out there, tiyak na tututukan n’yo ang pagsisimula ng Ako si Kim Sam Soon bukas (Lunes).

At the presscon held at the Glass Garden (oh, what a fabulous venue situated in a narrow tricycle-strewn street!), the next impressive sights followed. A three-layered cake-like centerpiece served as the set kung saan isa-isang ipinakilala ang cast members: Men were dressed in black suits with white ties as accents; women came in red.

Siyempre, nasa tuktok ang bidang si Regine Velasquez who sang the theme song of the Tagalog adaptation. Then came snippets of its first and second days of taping that, to me, told all of the story. Pero kumbaga sa dinutdot mo ang iyong daliri sa cake, patikim lang pala ’yon to even more delicious as well as delirious scenes that awaited the audience.

Regine as Kim Sam Soon may both love me and hate me for this. She will probably curse me (to highest layer of the cake!) dahil nakakainis minsan ang kaartehan niya, be it the way she speaks English or the way she talks about her private affairs also in English!

But Regine will love me for loving her performance, this time not only as a singer but a natural comedienne. I couldn’t think of any other star fit for the role, or any other role fit for Regine.

Sa pagkakataong ito, mas nakita ko ang pag-arte ni Regine kesa sa kaartehan niya. I can now see a cake more than a fake.
