LT original choice sa Startalk
A postscript to yesterday’s 12th anniversary episode of Startalk, two of its hosts—Lorna Tolentino and Joey de Leon—shared with the press tiny bits of information about the program that has been home to them for years.
Alam n’yo ba that Ms. LT was originally considered bilang co-host nina Boy Abunda at Lolit Solis when Startalk was born in 1995? Imbes na si Kris Aquino, si Lorna dapat ang ka-troika nina Kuya Boy at ‘Nay Lolit, but because the former was neck-deep in her film assignments kung kaya’t mahihirapan nga naman itong maisingit sa kanyang sked ang TV hosting.
As for Tito Joey, a TV veteran, bilib daw siya sa creative staff ng Startalk. Time was when daw kasi na ang mga sinaunang talk show would simply churn out nothing but gossip. Pero nag-evolve na raw ito into something beyond giving the audience the juiciest of showbiz stuff, may lalim na raw ito.
Being a writer himself, bilib daw si Tito Joey sa mga taong nakakasulat. And this is exactly what has become of today’s showbiz-oriented talk shows, kung saan malaking porsyento ng kalidad nito ay nakasalalay sa pool of writers. Two things are staple though sa ganitong uri ng panoorin—kabaklaan at tsismis. “Let’s face it, mawawala ang lahat ng mga programa sa TV, pero mga tsismis show will be the last to go,” sey ng self-confessed tsismoso.

Kung a-attend ka ng presscon, pero hindi ka naman bibigyan ng meal stub at aabutan ka pa ng press kit intended only for gatecrashers, what would you feel? Insulted, di ba?
Well, that was exactly what I felt sa presscon ng Kamandag (shall I still promote it? Sige, to premiere tomorrow on GMA 7) na pinangasiwaan ng Corporate Communications ng network led by a certain Jhops. All along, akala ko, graduate na ako sa pagiging “gaka,” after all, my bylines are seen and read, aside from my being an equally venomous Kapuso talent for more than 12 years.
Feeling ko, did I deserve to be treated that way, right in my turf notwithstanding? Samantalang I attended the event representing the tabloids that I write for.
Ultimo nga kaming mga taga-GMA na, na pinakikinabangan naman nila out of our tabloid columns, they simply don’t give a hoot!
Pagkauwi ko from that embarrassing, if not disgusting brush with the CorpCom staff, tinext ko agad si Lhot . Kesyo kulang daw sila sa staff, ngarag daw sila, to top it all, ‘yung Jhops daw ang may hawak nu’n. Passing the buck, eh, nandu’n si Lhot, ‘no!
Nangako naman si Lhot that she would make it up to me next time. (Ronnie Carrasco)
