Malaking bagay sa isang artista ang mapasama sa isang soap opera. It helps uplift ones status as an actor, bukod sa financially rewarding din ito. Were presently undergoing an economic crisis at apektado nito ang halos lahat ng sektor ng ating lipunan, kasama na ang local movie industry.
While we consider the movies as the cheapest form of entertainment, natatakot ang mga producer sa magiging box-office resulta ng pelikulang gagawin nila. Namimili na ang movie-going public ngayon and they want their moneys worth.
Matamlay ang movie career ni Eula Valdez at mas madalas si Jean Garcia sa Japan, until they were both offered roles for Pangako Sa Yo. Tinangkilik din ng televiewers ang tambalang Jericho Rosales at Kristine Hermosa sa nasabing serye, and the rest was history.
Now comes Cherry Pie Picache whos essaying her most challenging TV role to date, as Elizabeth in Sanay Wala Nang Wakas. She admits, inspired siya by no less than Ms. Gloria Romero whom she describe as "a great lady" under any condition and situation.
Pie was recently named Best Supporting Actress by the Film Academy of the Philippine (FAP) for her role in the movie, American Adobo, a long delayed acting recognition, if I may say so.
She was recognized by Channel 7s Bahaghari Awards and the Asian TV. She got two trophies, as Best Supporting Actress for GMAs telesine Melinda by Director Joel Lamangan. And a Best Actress Award for ABS-CBNs Maalaala Mo Kaya in an episode entitled Aklat helmed by Director Olive Lamasan.
"Ang telebisyon naman talaga ang bread and butter ko. Its my life-line. Mahirap mag-taping like dito sa Sanay... Its practically back breaking but definitely satisfying, and Im not complaining."
Pie admits, she gets all her energy from her son Jose Antonio, sa mga ngiti nitot yakap sa tuwing uuwi mula sa maghapon at magdamag na trabaho.
"And behind all these blessings, I am thankful to my ever supportive family for their patience and understanding, and most especially to God, who made all things possible," pagtatapos ni Cherry Pie. Ben Dela Cruz
