Pasko Sa Enero, Part Two

SPORTING CHANCE - Joaquin M. Henson - The Philippine Star

It’s the happiest time of the year and Christmas is upon us. This season is about loving, sharing, giving, forgiving, thanksgiving and celebrating the birth of our Lord. In the Yuletide spirit, we’re excited to launch our annual Christmas Contest, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, today. This has been our tradition for over 25 years, our way of sharing and giving thanks to our readers, followers and sports fans.

Last year, we held our awarding of prizes in January. This year, we’re doing another Pasko Sa Enero as we’ll gather 20 winners for the awarding on Sunday, Jan. 12. This will give more time for everyone to submit their entries.

To join Pasko Sa Enero, Part Two, submit your answers to three questions and essay through e-mail ([email protected]) or Twitter/X (@TheDeanQuinito) or Instagram (@therealdeanquinito) or Facebook (Joaquin Henson). Entries may also be submitted in hard copy form to Sports, Philippine Star at Amvel Business Park, The Philippine Star building, West Parkway Drive, Dr. Arcadio Santos Ave., Sucat, Parañaque. Deadline for entries is at 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 6. All entries must contain the name of sender, age, occupation (if student, year/course), home address and contact details (cellphone/e-mail address).

The three questions are: (1) Who were the high school teammates on opposite sides in this year’s UAAP men’s basketball finals? (2) How many teams are playing in the EASL this season? (3) What boxing weight division did Flash Elorde reign in and where Mark Magsayo and Charly Suarez are bidding to win the world championship? Additionally, write down what innovation you would like the PBA to introduce in the coming 50th anniversary season and why? In recent years, the PBA has introduced the head coach challenge, no player timeout rule, transition take foul and four-point shot. Criteria for choosing the best essays are creativity, sensibility, applicability and level of excitement.

We will choose 20 winners. First prize will be P20,000 cash and a load of gifts, including a FIBA official World Cup Molten leather basketball, packet of rice and canned goods, shirts, cap, Ever Bilena products, Bluetooth speaker, coffee maker, cup-and-electric saucer set, umbrella and many, many more. Second prize will be P10,000 cash and gifts. Third prize will be P5,000 cash and gifts. Fourth to 20th prize will be P2,000 cash and gifts each. Aside from the winners, we will give cash donations to St. Jerome Emiliani and Sta. Susana Parish Church, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church and St. Padre Pio Shrine, Sto. Tomas, Batangas. Casa Miani Orphanage will receive gifts.

Sincere thanks to our cash donors PSC, PLDT CEO Manny V. Pangilinan, Hermie Esguerra, Terrafirma PBA team, NorthPort PBA team, Marife Barrera, TNT PBA team, NLEX PBA team and Sen. Bong Go. Heartfelt thanks to our gift donors POC president Mayor Bambol Tolentino, MVP Group, PBA, SBP, San Miguel Corp., Ever Bilena, Meralco PBA team, Rain or Shine PBA team, Sonak Corp., Magnolia PBA team, NLEX PBA team, Phoenix PBA team, Sen.
