3 dengue deaths in Ormoc
CEBU, Philippines - Three adults died out of 247 dengue cases in Ormoc City, from January to September 19, this year, according to City Health Office Chief Nelita Navales.
Within the specified period, CHO data showed that in the month of August, specifically 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks was the peak with 24 cases, a situation that Navales said in already on the alert level.
“This is 84 percent higher compared to the same period last year,” Navales said, as she also noticed a trend in alarming dengue cases, occurring every two years and consistently in nine barangays in the hotspot list.
The CHO is now conducting simultaneous activities—fogging, larvaciding and cleanup—in the city’s affected barangays, and tapped 10 persons in each barangay to clean the surroundings and breeding sites of mosquitoes.
Navales clarified however that the CHO has not declared an outbreak yet, considering that the number of cases is still lower than the one during the aftermath of Yolanda. (FREEMAN)
