Mar in 2019? Who knows, he says

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  — As Mar Roxas goes around the country for a “Thank You” tour, does Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer have plans to run for public office in 2019?

“Who knows?” Roxas told a group of supporters in his recent visit to this capital city of Negros Occidental, when asked about his plans for the next elections.

Roxas met with about 50 members of The Silent Majority (TSM) in Bacolod, as part of his nationwide “Thank You” tour, after losing his presidential bid to Rodrigo Duterte, in the May 9 elections.

However, he stressed that what is important about his next political plan is to keep the TSM active in nation-building.

After topping the presidential race in Negros Occidental with 686,078 votes, Roxas thanked Negrenses who supported him, especially TSM members, who had actively campaigned for him. His rival, now President-elect Duterte got only 260,067 votes here.

Roxas’s running-mate, now Vice President-elect Leni Robredo, also topped the vice presidential race in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City. She got 733,887 votes, or a lead of 571,815 votes against Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s 162,072 votes.

“I thank the people who supported me all the way and who never left me until now,” said Roxas, who is considered a son of Negros, as his mother, Judy Araneta-Roxas, hails from Bago City here.

The meeting with TSM members lasted for two hours. His Negrense supporters also thanked him, expressed messages of support, and gave him letters and gifts. The TSM members also shared their campaign stories to him.

Roxas said he also met earlier with Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and former governor Rafael Coscolluela to thank them for their support.   (FREEMAN)
