Mar endorses LP, Aksyon Demokratiko bets
ORMOC CITY, Philippines — Mayor Edward Codilla of the Liberal Party is “one of the best mayors in the country,” according to presidential candidate Mar Roxas, during his recent visit to this city where he proclaimed the local candidates of the party and that of Aksyon Demokratiko.
“The mayor is not noisy, but very effective,” Roxas told the crowd, as he raised the hands of other LP bets from the towns of Albuera, Kananga, Matag-ob, Palompon, Isabel and Merida, all of the 4th district of Leyte, during the proclamation rally at the city’s Astrodome.
Roxas, who was with runningmate, Rep. Leni Robredo, also raised the hands of the mayor’s wife, Engineer Violy Codilla of Aksyon Demokratiko, endorsing her as his congressional candidate for Leyte’s fourth district, against LP member, re-electionist Lucy Torres Gomez, who was incidentally a no-show to the event.
In his speech, Roxas described Violy as a woman who does not need recognition while helping the people. “She is silent but gets the work done,” he said, citing her behind-the-scene works during the Yolanda onslaught in 2013, when she used the Codilla’s construction equipment in clearing the ports and thoroughfares of debris.
The Codilla couple had also donated more than 50 hectares for the housing projects for the Yolanda-displaced families in the district, Roxas said.
Roxas, for his part, vowed to continue the daang–matuwid philosophy if elected president, while Robredo promised to continue her services to the poor and the women if elected vice president. (FREEMAN)
