PRO-8 cops to get Yolanda cash aid

PALO, LEYTE, Philippines — A total of 3,225 policemen, including non-uniformed personnel, of the Police Regional Office-8 will finally get its long-delayed cash assistance from the Presidential Management Funds, almost three years after super typhoon Yolanda devastate Eastern Visayas..

Chief Superintendent Wilfredo Franco, chief of the Police Community Relations of the PNPs national headquarters in Camp Crame, announced this during the news conference at the PNP-8 office.

Franco told the local policemen that President Aquino had finally released a total of P173,543,000, with allocations for each of them and P100,000 for every policeman whose house was totally destroyed and P30,000 for one whose house was partially damaged during the typhoon.

“It took time for us to release this cash assistance for Yolanda victims of the PRO-8 because of a long process of validation. Finally it is already here. We have to give release this for you,” Franco told the policemen.

The police official however clarified that there will be two releases, the second of which will only be given after the first is properly liquidated.

Chief Inspector Mark Nalda of PRO-8 lauded the concern of the PNP superiors in Camp Crame and of President Aquino’s support for the policemen in Leyte who suffered the most from the onslaught of Yolanda. — (FREEMAN)
