Cayetano: Let’s wait for Duterte to decide in December

Ric V. Obedencio - The Freeman

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who is running for vice-president in the May 2016 elections, visited this city and met with the members of the Tagbilaran Port Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association, including port personnel and the media.

Cayetano, during a brief gathering at the city port, also attended by PPA manager Annie Lee Manese, told the tricycle drivers and the people: Wait until this December for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to decide running for president.

As usual, the senator extended to TPTODA the amount of P100,000 as seed money for his micro-finance program, dubbed “Presyo, Trabaho, Kaayusan,” intended for the lowly workers in the countryside.

Cayetano has been providing micro-finance funding to tricycle drivers also in the towns of Loon, and to kalamay makers in Alburquerque town, among others.

He said the fund did not come from the national government but sourced out from businessmen who contributed to his initiated micro-finance program.

TPTODA chairman Castor Rollon received the money from Cayetano in the presence of association members and PPA personnel.

TPTODA has at least 54 members, who make tricycle driving as their main source of livelihood, Rollon told The Freeman.

He said Duterte has been very much affected by the “laglag-bala” extortion scheme that is going in airports particularly in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

Cayetano, when asked if he will still pursue his vice-presidential bid without Duterte, did not give a categorical answer. (FREEMAN)
