Homicide suspect shot dead

Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A suspect in the attempted homicide case earlier this year, was shot dead Monday evening by a still unidentified riding in tandem men, using a .45-caliber pistol.

The victim was identified as Shaun Ronald Chiong, also known as Tamoy, a resident of Cebu who was out on bail for attempted homicide, filed by a certain Lou Anne Ybañez.

Chiong arrived on foot at a convenience store at Purok Kalubihan in Barangay Daro this city at 9:15 last night and sat on a plastic chair. Five minutes later, the assailants arrived and, without provocation, shot him several times in the body before leaving the scene.

Initial investigations showed that Chiong could be waiting and expecting for somebody, because he just sat in front of the convenience store without buying anything.

Three eyewitnesses claimed they did not have a good look of the suspects because it was dark outside. Upon hearing the first gunshot, they immediately ran for cover into the store.

No one was hit by stray bullets, five of which pierced through the glass wall of the store. Police recovered from the scene nine empty shells of .45-caliber bullets, holder of a gun silencer and several deformed slugs. (FREEMAN)
