NORECO 2 to put up mobile sub-station

Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 2 is now bracing itself for possible power outages due to typhoons and other calamities.

NORECO 2 director Ricardo Maputi said power outages in certain areas, when stationary sub-stations bog down, can be immediately addressed with a mobile sub-station.

Maputi said the coop had planned to acquire a mobile sub-station that can be immediately dispatched to take the place of a damaged stationary sub-station in just one day.

One mobile sub-station would cost about P61 million, which is even cheaper than the stationary sub-station that is pegged at P71 million, Maputi said.

Other features of the proposed project is for the supplier to deliver the equipment to Dumaguete City, tax-free, with two prime movers and a trailer, the latter of which will be used by NORECO 2 in hauling of concrete poles from the stockyard in Dauin to areas where these will be needed.

This proposed mobile sub-station, however, still need the approval of electric consumers during the annual general assembly of NORECO 2, scheduled next weekend in Sibulan town.
