Antique town complains on DSWD’s shelter aid delay
CEBU, Philippines - The mayor of Tibiao town in Antique province had complained over the delayed release by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region 6 of P87.23 million in shelter assistance for survivors of super typhoon Yolanda.
Mayor Gil Bandoja said he signed a memorandum of agreement for the assistance with the DSWD-6 office in Iloilo City on December 29 last year, according to interaksyon.com report.
“The DSWD officials in Iloilo City told me that the vouchers for the individual beneficiaries are being prepared and they told me these will be released on or before January 15, 2015. It’s now February and we have not received a single check yet,” he said.
The assistance grants P30,000 to beneficiaries who lost their homes and P10,000 to those whose houses were damaged, excluding survivors who have received assistance from other aid agencies, whether government or private.
The town recorded 2,636 houses damaged and 2,029 destroyed during the powerful storm that struck in November 2013. —From the wires
