Motorcycle, truck collide: 2 die, 1 hurt

CEBU, Philippines - Two persons were killed while another was injured when their motorcycle figured in a collision with a truck Thursday afternoon at Concepcion town in Iloilo.

Police Officer 3 Edzel Ray Cacia, Concepcion Police investigator, identified the victims as Efren Tejada, 61, of Barangay Aglosong in Concepcion, and motorcycle driver Jose de los Santos, 53, of Barangay Bacjawan Norte, Concepcion. Injured was Lito Herrera, 56, also of Bacjawan Norte.

Cacia said that, while the victims were navigating a blind curve at the town proper around 5 p.m., their motorcycle collided with a truck, loaded with sand and gravel running at the opposite direction of the road. Based on the vehicles’ skid marks, it was the motorcycle that went towards the truck’s lane, he said.

Tejada was declared dead on arrival at the Western Visayas Medical Center while de los Santos died around 1:30 a.m. of Friday due to head injuries. Herrera survived the incident after he was thrown out of the motorcycle.

The truck driver, Erjun Asturias, 34, of Barangay Bagacay in San Dionisio town, is now detained for proper disposition of his case. —Jennifer P. Rendon (FREEMAN)
