Nine tribes set to compete in Dinagyang Festival 2015

May Joven - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines  — With the theme “Senior Santo Niño: Hope for the Poor,” at least nine tribes will compete for this year’s  Ati-Atihan competition for the Dinagyang Festival on January 25.

The nine competing tribes are: Defending champion Tribu Panayanon of the Iloilo City National High School; Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School, Tribu Obreros of Barrio Obrero National High School, Tribu Ilawudnon of Sto. Rosario Street in Iloilo City, Tribu Baybayanon of Barangay Calaparan in Arevalo district, Tribu Salognon of Jaro National High School, Tribu Atub-Atub of Barangay Veterans Village in Iloilo City, Tribu Ilonganon of Abanilla Street in Iloilo City and Tribu Milagrosa of Passi City.

While previous Ati-atihan competitions showcased the spectacular props of every tribe, this year, the tribes will focus more on the dances and minimal props during their performance.

The festival will also highlight the religious fluvial and solemn foot procession of the image of Santo Niño de Cebu today (January 23), from Fort San Pedro to Iloilo Customs House, followed by solemn procession to San Jose Placer Church.

In addition to the festive mood in the city will be the Kasadyahan Regional Festival on Saturday, participated in by several local government units in the region.  (FREEMAN)
