Catbalogan health office confirms 2 deaths due to meningococcemia

Rommel L. Rutor - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Catbalogan City Health Office, through Doctor Gerarda Tizon, officially announced on Friday morning over DyMS Aksyon Radyo, that the results of the laboratory examinations showed that meningococcemia was the cause of deaths of the two patients.

Tizon said the laboratory culture yielded positive result for the adult patient, while the baby was clinically diagnosed as such considering that no specimen from the latter had undergone similar tests.

The CHO, as such, said that that if anyone, who had been into contact or residing within the areas---Barangays Parola and Poblacion Uno in the city--- of the two patients who died earlier, and has been experiencing symptoms similar to the posts in the thread, shall immediately consult a physician as a precaution.

Prophylaxis was already conducted by the CHO among direct contacts with the two and within the neighborhood, but it is now advising everyone to maintain a strong immune system, a healthy lifestyle, stay away from alcohol and take in more Vitamin C, especially the kids.
