Petilla leads turnover of 3 school buildings
PALO, LEYTE, Philippines – Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla led in the turn-over ceremony of three new school buildings, worth P9.6 million, to three elementary schools in Palo and Tanauan towns of Leyte, according to the Leyte provincial government.
Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, who also attended the ceremonies, told reporters the three one-storey school buildings were private donations from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to the schools, which buildings were destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda last year.
The governor said two of the buildings were in Barangays Pawing and Guindapunan of Palo town and one in Barangay Mohon of the adjacent town of Tanauan.
NGCP executives said each building has three classrooms and all are designed and constructed to withstand strong earthquakes and typhoons like Yolanda. These are elevated to a level that could not be reached by floods during rainy days.
They added that each classroom, with a capacity of 30 to 45 pupils, is furnished with chairs and other amenities, and that these buildings were built in partnership with two electric cooperatives in Leyte.
