Teacher dies after shooting self

CEBU, Philippines – A 43-year-old public school teacher died after he shot himself on the head shortly after midnight yesterday.

Noel Jamosin, a faculty of the San Juan Elementary School in Barotac Viejo town of Iloilo, was found dead inside the room he shared with his mother at Barangay San Roque of the town.

Chief Inspector Wilfredo Rios, Barotac Viejo Police chief, said have been trying to determine if it was a case of suicide or accidental firing.

Rios said Jamosin used to sleep in his mother’s room to attend to her personal necessity while his wife and children occupied the adjacent room.

Initial investigation showed the bullet entered at the back portion of the victim’s head and exited on his forehead. No one however saw the actual incident, but his mother claimed to have been awakened by the gunfire.

Police recovered the gun near the victim’s left hand. The firearm–an unlicensed Squires Bingham caliber .38 revolver–belonged to Jamosin, according to his family.

A village official reported the incident to the police aroud 2 a.m. or about an hour after.
