11 injured as tourist van collides with hearse
CEBU, Philippines - Eleven persons were injured after a van carrying Boracay-bound tourists collided with a hearse Thursday afternoon.
The victims were seven family members from Panit-an town in Capiz and three teenagers from Aklan, Antique and Boracay island.
According to reports, they were brought to the Aklan Provincial Hospital but refused confinement, as they insisted to push through with their Boracay vacation.
On the other hand, Marvin Alvares, the driver of the hearse, which was an Isuzu jeep owned by Anipan Funeral Parlor, was treated for fracture on his shoulder and wound on the head.
Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, Aklan Police chief, said the hearse was making a left turn going to the funeral parlor from the town proper when it was sideswept by the van coming from the same direction and was heading to Makato town.
The van, driven by Norberto Felipe Jr., 39, of Makato town, turned turtle while the hearse incurred damages. (FREEMAN)
