Judy Flores Partlow - The Freeman

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - — A female teenager died of drowning in the southern town of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental on Tuesday when heavy rains inundated many parts of the province and caused some river waters to overflow due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by typhoon Glenda.

The victim was identified as Rubie Amadera, 17, a resident of Barangay Amio in Sta. Catalina, about 80 kilometers south of this capital city.

Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo, also executive director of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said a report reaching the governor's office stated that Amadera went swimming in the river at Amio Tuesday morning when she slipped and fell, hitting her head on a rock.

Her body was found around 9:15 a.m. on the same day, Sedillo added. (FREEMAN)
