PNoy: DILG to study one-island region plan

SAN CARLOS CITY, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III assured Negrenses yesterday that he will look into the proposal to join the two Negros provinces—Occidental and Oriental—into one region.

Aquino confirmed receipt on the proposal of the one-island region, which is already with Interior Secretary Mar Roxas. “DILG is currently studying it and will be responsible for recommending it,” he told The Freeman.

The president said he will wait for the findings of the DILG “before I will take action on it.” Further, Aquino noted that “Roxas is from this area. I’m sure he will expedite it to its logical conclusion.”

Aquino said he will also get inputs from National Economic and Development Authority, as he asked, is Negros sufficient by itself and if the two Negros provinces have all the necessary components to ensure growth?”  (FREEMAN)
