Marchel P. Espina - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines   â€” A 37-year-old police officer was killed after he accidentally fired his gun, Sunday morning.

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, identified the victim as PO2 Joery Ayo, married, a native of Bacolod City and was assigned to the Sipalay City Police.

Lirazan said that the victim was inside his bunker, located at the back of the police station, when the other police personnel heard a gun fire at around 7:30 a.m. They later found Ayo was fatally shot on the head. He was rushed to Sipalay Infirmary but didn’t make it alive.

Lirazan said Ayo was alone in his room when the incident happened. He further said the victim may have been cleaning his 9mm Glock pistol before he was shot.

However, Lizaran said the possibility of a foul play or a suicide was not being ruled out. He said that he had ordered Supt. Noel Mana-ay, chief of the Sipalay City Police, to probe the incident.  (FREEMAN)
