Dumaguete City marks Women's Month

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - — The local government unit of Dumaguete City, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, joins the rest of the country in celebrating Women's Month this March with a series of activities, according to city social officer  Carola Alquero.

Carola said the celebration kicked off last Mar. 3 with a Mass in the afternoon, followed by a parade and a short program at Quezon Park.

The theme for this year celebration is "Juana, Ang Tatag Mo Ay Tatag Natin Sa Pagbangon At Pagsulong."

Last Mar. 8, the women's group headed by the members of KALIPI conducted a clean- up drive at the Women's Center near DSWD building while the opening of volleyball tournament also kicked off at the Dumaguete City Gymnasium Tayada.

On Mar. 17, the women's group will visit women inmates at  BJMP Bajumpdanan while Kapihan sa PIA Forum is slated on Mar. 19 at the Women's Center.

The KALIPI members from the different barangays in the city will convene at the Women's Center for the annual whole-day convention on Mar. 20.

The group will once again gather on Mar. 24 for a symposium on this year's theme.

The seminar on R.A-9262 (VAWC), R.A-9208 (Human Trafficking), R.A-7610 (Child Abuse Law) and RA 8353 (Anti-Rape Law) will be on Mar. 26 at the Women's Center.

The celebration will conclude with an awarding and culmination ceremony on Mar. 26 at 2 p.m. still at the Women's Center.

The late president Corazon Aquino signed Proclamation No. 227 declaring the month of March of every year as National Women's Month.  (FREEMAN)
