BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A 47-year-old scion of a prominent family in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental was shot dead at Guanzon Street in that city at 12:10 a.m, last Monday.

Police identified the victim as Miguel Angel Sola, of Barangay 9 of the same city, who was a nephew of the late Kabankalan City Mayor Pablo Sola.

The victim died of multiple gunshot wounds after riding-in-tandem assailants fired at him. Police probers recovered empty shells of a .45-caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, provincial police director, said the suspects may have a personal grudge against the victim, as the police ruled out the involvement of the New People’s Army (NPA).

Lirazan further said the victim was a cousin of Pablo Sola Jr., whose warehouse at Hacienda Sta. Isabel, Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City, was burned down by the NPA while holding hostage 20 civilians last January 23. (FREEMAN)
