Son rapes ma, then attempts to kill self

BACLAYON, BOHOL, Philippines — A 54-year-old mother has filed rape charges against her 31-year-old son who she alleged mauled and beat her up on Monday before raping her.

The incident, the most disturbing crime that ever took place in this peaceful town known for its centuries-old Catholic church, happened six days after the massacre in Tagbilaran City where a man shot his wife, two kids and later himself before setting all of them afire inside their car.

Senior Police Officer 4 Noel Agurang said the rape incident took place at Barangay San Roque of this town, 15 kilometers from the capital city.

Agurang withheld the names of the family members involved in the incestuous rape, but the police have suspected that the son was under the influence of illegal drugs when he raped his own mother.

Police investigation revealed that the mother had just arrived at her house at 1 p.m. Monday after attending the burial of her sister, when she was instructed by her son to take a bath.

After Laura took a bath, the suspect, married and has two kids, then locked all the doors and windows of the house. Alarmed, Laura attempted to flee but her son beat her up and succeeded in raping her.

Subsequently she was able to flee from her house and reported the incident to his other son, who in turn went to her house and found his twin brother, the suspect, attempting to kill himself by hanging.

The suspect, who yesterday refused to talk to the police or any relative, is now being locked up at the Baclayon Police jail.

Police said the woman’s husband was still reeling from shock over the scandal that befell his family, but has indicated he would testify on the rape charges against his own son.

San Roque Barangay Captain Lea Locot told The Freeman yesterday that the rape incident has deeply disturbed the residents of her barangay. She said the suspect has been known as a fish vendor in their village.

Locot refused to confirm on local media reports saying that the suspect, before he raped his mother on Monday, also beat up his wife Sunday night for allegedly refusing to make love with him. (FREEMAN)
