Two killed in 3 shootings; 2nd most wanted arrested
DUMAGUETE CITY , Philippines — Two died in three shooting incidents reported in the province over the past week, amid calls from various sectors for authorities to enhance their operations against such crimes.
In Bayawan City, a member of the police auxiliary group was shot dead by unidentified assailants for an undetermined motive. The victim, June Mark Bucad, 28, had just taken his dinner and was standing outside an eatery in the city proper when men on a motorcycle came and fired several shots at him. He was declared dead on arrival at the Bayawan District Hospital.
In Guihulngan City, about more than a 100 kilometers north of Dumaguete, 54-year-old James Cuevas, as shot dead by unidentified attackers in front of his house in Brgy. Malusay late last week. Two men riding in tandem on a motorcycle, came up to him and shot him several times. He later died at the Guihulngan District Hospital, while motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.
The third shooting incident was reported in Brgy. Baras of Mabinay town where 39-year-old Perlita Asturias, while urinating at a sugarcane field, was shot in her genitals by a still unidentified gunman. She was rushed to the hospital by her husband, while investigation was still undertaken by the police.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested 46-year-old Latoy Aguilar, the 2nd most wanted person in Negros Oriental over the weekend at Barangay Atotis in Bindoy town of this province.
Aguilar was nabbed by joint operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Negros Oriental Philippine National Police Office (NOPPO) and the Bindoy Police, by virtue of an arrest warrant, without bail, issued by Judge Candelario Gonzalez of the RTC-Branch 45 in Bais City, for a rape case filed against the suspect.
