Iloilo LGU offers amnesty to delinquent taxpayers

Montesa Griño Caoyonan - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Iloilo provincial government, via its Provincial Treasurer's Office, is offering tax amnesty to real property owners-from January 1 to December 31, this year-to encourage delinquent tax payers to pay their taxes promptly.

Provincial Treasurer Melba Sullivan said the tax amnesty will encourage delinquent taxpayers to avail themselves of this opportunity, which no longer requires them to pay the usual two percent monthly interest against the deliquency.

Sullivan said the PTO is eyeing a total collectible of P338 million real property and P57 million penalties from year 2012 and below. This amount will go to the general fund for various projects in the province.

Those who will be paying in advance for 2015 taxes will also be entitled to a 20-percent discount this year.

The amnesty, covered by Provincial Ordinance No. 2013-107, grants tax relief to delinquent taxpayers from penalties, surcharges and interests. (FREEMAN)
