Guimaras ex-governor hurt, driver killed in accident
CEBU, Philippines - A former governor of Guimaras province was injured after figuring in a road accident in Sta. Barbara town in Iloilo Thursday, Iloilo-based The Daily Guardian reported yesterday.
Former Guimaras gov. Emily Lopez was in guarded condition after a white Toyota van she and five others were riding collided with an Isuzu SUV.
Lopez and her companions were heading for the Taos Puso Foundation Inc. office in Sta. Barbara when the accident occurred along Kahilwayan Avenue around 9 a.m., the report said.
The former governor was rushed to the Iloilo Doctors Hospital but her family plans to transfer her to a hospital in Metro Manila.
Van driver Mario Gayorgor, 55, of Pavia town in Iloilo was killed in the accident. The van’s other passengers were former Alimodian town vice mayor Marilou Alipao; Asuncion Rosal, Cristina Concio, Marly Sinkwego and Cecilia Velchez.
Investigation showed the SUV, driven by Jolly Libuna, went out of control after one of its tires exploded, then hit the van. — From the wires
